“Green Day is the perfect band for the NHL. Their music fits so perfectly with the energy, speed and power that we witness on the ice and each and every night,” said NHL Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President Steve Mayer. “We are so excited to start this partnership with the NBC Sports.
This is absolute gold. Not in the sense where I’m like “Green Day is so cool, that was so edgy!” but in a sense that Gary Bettman 1000% didn’t do his due diligence (say that 5 times fast) when locking Green Day up to a 2 year deal partnership with the NHL. It would’ve taken one play of ‘Holiday’ to realize that maybe we don’t put a group of guys who spent the majority of their childhood grinding the halfpipe at their local skate park on live TV. Growing up I think we all go through that phase where we hate everyone and everything and act out a bit. Thats where bands like Green Day, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Blink-182 and others come in to let us know its okay to be angry, its okay to act out and its okay to set the god damn tone. I’ve been out on Green Day for a while but I might just have to download some new songs. On a night where everything is so planned, that everything is so bland, Green Day set the tone against the establishment and I suppose thats something I can support. If you didn’t like the ‘F’ bombs because the only f bomb you’re here for is fun then I only have one thing to say: Ok boomer*.
*People call me boomer all the time and after using it for the first time, I just don’t get the thrill of it.
